Learning a string instrument is a long-term journey that builds self-confidence, discipline, character, and a lifelong appreciation for beauty and music. In our studio, we embrace the Suzuki method, focusing on the quality of the journey rather than just the destination.
As a Suzuki parent, you are the most influential teacher your child will ever have. Your responsibilities include:
Attending Lessons: One parent must attend all private and group lessons, taking careful notes as a silent observer and partner.
Guiding Daily Practice: Partnering with your child at home using consistent routines, positive reinforcement, and strategies modeled during lessons.
Creating a Musical Environment: Playing Suzuki recordings daily and exposing your child to live concerts and classical music.
Keeping it Positive: Cultivating a non-threatening, encouraging environment where mistakes are viewed as a natural, essential part of the learning process.
Lesson Preparation: Arrive 5–10 minutes early to unpack, tune, and get mentally prepared so lessons can begin promptly.
Instrument Care & Supplies:
Keep a metronome, tuner, recording device, notebook, rosin, and nail clippers in the instrument case.
Always wipe rosin off the instrument after playing, loosen the bow hair before storing, and never leave instruments in vehicles where extreme temperatures can warp or crack the wood.
Always consult the teacher before purchasing an instrument (and avoid buying blindly online).
Communication: Maintain open communication with the teacher regarding home practice struggles or questions, remembering that we are all on the same team supporting your child's growth.
